The Nordic countries have much in common when it comes to culture, language, and the organization of healthcare. Therefore, it can be especially valuable to have an arena for Nordic cooperation in epilepsy research.

NorEpiNet is a Nordic network that aims to promote collaboration in both clinical and research aspects of the field of epilepsy. Currently, there are working groups for the following areas: 1) precision medicine and genetics, 2) ketogenic diet therapy, and 3) medical registries.

Under the auspices of NorEpiNet, a group of Nordic epilepsy researchers met in Gothenburg on February 3rd, 2023. All countries except Iceland were represented. The program included presentations on existing databases in all countries and discussions on how to establish a common research registry. Utilizing international classification standards will be important. Additional topics of the meeting included precision medicine, microbiota, drug repurposing and somatic mutations in epilepsy. Below are some of the participants in Gothenburg.
